The Program aims to encourage youth and adults from West Virginia and abroad to know and respect cultural and ethnic differences, help strengthen West Virginia's competitiveness in the global economy, increase awareness of global issues and their impact on the state and on each of us, facilitate grass roots development projects which foster cooperation and collaboration between West Virginia and developing countries, and strengthen the capacity of WVU Extension to plan and conduct international programs. Shepherd University www.shepherd.edu Shepherd University is a public liberal arts university, located in Shepherdstown, WV. Since it is within our county, it is an excellent resource for academic and cultural opportunities. Shepherd University was founded as a teacher’s college and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and classes in education. The University also has an International Student Union, which could be used as a resource for teachers within Jefferson County. Renny Smith Email: rennyts@aol.com Renny is a former State Dept. employee, was a volunteer community member for the Wildwood Go Global committee and serves on the board at the Smithsonian Institute. She speaks 5 different languages and is an excellent resource about the Middle East for teachers and schools.
